Amazon India Reports 10x Growth in Apple and Samsung Tablets; 1.4 Billion Customer Visits During Diwali Sales
Amazon India experienced a remarkable 10x growth in Apple and Samsung tablet sales during the Diwali sales, with a record 1.4 billion customer visits, highlighting the festival's strong demand for premium electronics.
Amazon Sale
This Diwali season's Great Indian Festival sale, which kicked off on September 27, has seen robust demand for premium products across categories like televisions, smartphones, and large appliances, according to a senior Amazon official.
Amazon India Vice President Saurabh Srivastava reported that during this year's event, Apple iPad sales surged tenfold, while Samsung tablets experienced a fivefold increase.
"There’s a clear trend towards premiumisation across the board—whether it’s televisions, fashion and beauty, gaming laptops, or home and kitchen appliances. Consumers are increasingly opting for higher-end products, and this trend isn't confined to just the major cities," Srivastava noted.
Large-screen TVs now account for about 30% of total sales, reflecting significant growth compared to last year. Popular brands include Samsung and Xiaomi, with Sony also making an impact.
High Demand for Electronics
Srivastava highlighted the substantial market demand for electronic gadgets. Sales data show that both Apple and Samsung are top contenders in the tablet market. During the Great Indian Festival, Apple tablets saw a tenfold increase in sales compared to last year, while Samsung tablets grew fivefold.
There was also a notable rise in demand for major appliances, including washing machines, refrigerators, and air conditioners. Premium models, particularly front-loading washers, side-by-side refrigerators, and air conditioners over 1.5 tons, saw a 30% year-on-year sales increase.
"In the tablet segment, both Apple and Samsung are recognised as premium brands. Apple tablets grew tenfold, while Samsung tablets increased fivefold year on year. For large appliances, premium items like front-load washing machines, side-by-side refrigerators, and larger ACs all experienced a 30% YoY growth," Srivastava added.
He also pointed out a significant 20% increase in customer visits during AGIF 2024 compared to the festive season sale a year ago.
"The Amazon Great Indian Festival 2024 recorded 1.4 billion customer visits—the highest ever— with over 85% of shoppers coming from non-metro cities," Srivastava stated.
Additionally, Amazon India reported a 50% year-on-year growth in B2B customers making their first purchases through Amazon Business.
